Concept:
Basketball sim franchise. Simple as that.
Keep:
- Character models. Down to the sweat on their skin, 2K captures the essence of each player in stunning detail. It's one thing to have Lebron's tattoos, it's another entirely to have Chris Anderson's.
- NBA Today. Encouraging online play is the way to go for a franchise like 2K. If you're connected to XBLA or PSN, the game automatically starts on the NBA Today. There you will find scores and stats from all the games around the league. It's a sports page in a game, and it's a very clever idea. You can challenge a friend or find a random game online. If you want to play some other mode, you hit the right stick.
- Customization: 2K will win you over with its attention to detail. For example, being able to choose what sneakers my player would wear: Reebok, Nike, LA Knight, Converse, whatever. After the brand, you get to choose what model like Jordan's or Lebron's. Nice little touch.
Correct:
- NBA Today being the default screen if you connect online. I understand that they want to show off their cool screen. It is cool. I just don't like having to navigate to the main menu when the game starts up. After all, it is the main menu.
Cut:
Nothing that I saw.
Conclusion:
NBA 2K10 is giving you what you want. It's sleek and good-looking, with the same intuitive gameplay. Small tweaks like refining the turbo system will ensure a more strategic play during games. No more spamming it or you will tire. Brining back old favorites like Blacktop Mode with special guests like The Game and Kayne West (both playable) is more of what you want.
