UPDATE: It's all a viral ad! Yay! Many people are givng them crap about it. I say, kudos to them. I was entertained and it piqued my interest, regardless of whether it was in bad taste or not. They even dragged their own name through the dirt for it. Well played, EA. Well played.
There are two hot-button issues you should stay away from in casual conversation: politics, and religion. Thankfully, video games aren't a kindly chit-chat, which means you can overthrow governments, fight your way in and out of hell, and maybe even use crosses as weapons. Hell, I've used crosses in Castlevania for years, and never thought much of anything about it. Unfortunately for Electronic Arts, some hardcore Christian activists don't quite see it the same way I do.
At this very second, outside the Los Angeles Convention Center, E3 is being slightly challenged. Thanks to Dante's Inferno, a title shared by a video game and a portion of a book that is almost 700 years old, these protesters are pissed. They have pun-laden pamphlets with phrases like "We say InferNO!", "The Cross is not a weapon!", and "Our high score is in Heaven!" The text of this paper pretty much tells you, in about 20 different ways, that if you play this game, you will be Hell's next DLC. Game over. Personally, I can't wait to play this game. Sucks for me, eh?
As serious as these folks take themselves, it is really hard to not laugh when you think about the situation. I can think of a countless number of entertainment, from books to paintings and music that have all depicted things that will be in this game. Some of it nearly a thousand years old, and no one really seemed to have a problem till now? I don't know. At least they made a really funny and entertaining pamphlet, that is of course, unless you totally agree with them. I don't think EA are such a bad group of folks. We've got the front and back of it scanned below for you to read, so check it out and sound off in the comments.
