Undoubtably humans want to do the least amount of work that will yield them the greatest rewards.
That principle is what drove us to figure out how to cheat the Pokéwalker. The Pokéwalker is a pedometer accessory for Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, the new DS remakes of the second Pokémon game. As you walk around, the pedometer records your steps and allows you to build up your pokémon, capture additional pokémon and find items.
We tested out a few ways to cheat the Pokéwalker, to get it to think we were walking, when instead we were playing other games or just watching TV. In that round of tests, we learned that putting the Pokéwalker on top of a fan produced the most amount of steps per minutes. Walking the Dog
Cindra Palmer said she puts the pedometer on her dog’s collar and lets him do all the work while she tosses a ball in the back yard.
Type to Cheat
Cindra also said you should attach it to your wrist and while you type at work or for school, the pedometer will pick up some extra steps. It’s all about maximizing the time the pedometer thinks you’re walking, rather than having it sit in a bag all day long waiting for you to go somewhere.
Rolling Down the Highway
Zack Bapty said his method was to trick the pedometer via necklace. If you attach it to a string and then wear it while in a moving vehicle, the looseness and free movement of the car’s natural ups and downs tricks the Pokéwalker.
