38 Studios promised details on its first game,
code-named Project Mercury, at this year's Comic-Con. We're
still a couple days away from Mercury's big debut, but now we at least know the
game's official title: EA just announced Kingdoms of Amalur:
Reckoning, an open-world RPG from 38 Studios, Spawn creator
Todd McFarlane, and famed novelist R.A. Salvatore.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer
Ken Rolston is heading up the project for 38 Studios, which was founded by
former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling back in 2006. Rolston describes Kingdoms
of Amalur as "a fast-paced, graphically stimulating action combat experience
with fluid control and immersive, discoverable gameplay fans haven't seen before
in other fantasy RPGs."
It's planned for release sometime in the fall of 2011 on the PlayStation 3,
Xbox 360, and PC. Look for more on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (including the
first official trailer) during our coverage of the 2010 San
Diego Comic-Con.
