This is the largestexampleofabasilicaof
monumentalarchitecture in theBalticstates
(designedbyaLatvian,KarolisReisonas,
whowasn’tactuallyCatholic),and itprobably
has thecity’s longestbuildhistory.Funded
by thepeople,constructionstarted
in1930sandwasonly finished
after thecountryregained
independence. InSoviet times,
itwasusedasaradioparts
