AS THE LARGEST LOW-FARE AIRLINE IN CENTRAL AND
Eastern Europe, Wizz Air proudly announces its 16th low-cost base
in Skopje, capital of the Republic of Macedonia. An additional,
brand-new aircraft will be based there from late October this year.
In addition to Wizz Air’s two existing low-cost Skopje routes between
London-Luton and Venice-Treviso, Wizz Air will also operate six new
routes between Skopje and Basel-Mulhouse, Eindhoven, Dortmund,
Malmö, Milan-Bergamo and Munich-Memmingen. Together these
eight routes will annually carry over 300,000 passengers and support
more than 300 local jobs.
Wizz Air is renowned for increasing tourism between Western and
Eastern Europe since 2004 and its low fares support traffic growth
and jobs at airports providing low-cost facilities. Wizz Air’s Skopje
operations are the latest addition to Wizz Air’s network of now 16
bases and 78 airports across 28 countries.
Wizz Air’s Executive Vice President, John Stephenson, is delighted
with the new expansion. “Our six new routes to France, Germany,
Italy, Sweden and Switzerland will expand tourism in Macedonia and
help to create much-needed jobs.
“Wizz Air’s low fares arrived in Skopje less than two years ago
and the Macedonian Government is committed to promoting
tourism with direct low-cost flights. Macedonian citizens and visitors
are no longer held hostage by high-fare airlines, and no longer
depend on costly feed and hub connections,” he says.
