Rojak, Popiah, Cockle, #01-56
DISH: ROJAK
What you’ll find:
This is an
authentically Singaporean local
dining experience and you’ll
receive mouth-watering rojak
for $3 that’s worth the 15- to
20-
minute wait. The taste is
perfectly blended with the right
sweetness and sourness, and
generous with the thick prawn
paste and chopped peanuts,
crispy
you tiao
(
deep-fried
dough) and a variety of fruits
are also included. The stall
provides another favourite local
dish of mine, popiah, which
is good when I feel like going
vegetarian.”

Aspirasi Food Stall, #01-45 2
DISH: NASI AYAM PENYET
What you’ll find:
The best
version of this Indonesian fried
chicken dish should have a
great
sambal
(
chilli paste), and
this one has a sambal that will
leave you wanting more – it
has a good ‘kick’. The chicken is
crispy on the outside and juicy
inside, and the rice is fluffy.
The stall’s friendly owners serve
customers with a big smile,
which offers an added bonus.
You can say this is the Malay/
Indonesian version.”

Bak Chor Mee Stalls
DISH: BAK CHOR MEE
What you’ll find:
There are
three stalls that are being
operated by the same family but
somehow there were disputes
among the three brothers
and therefore, they are now
competitors. My favourite stall,
or rather the ‘original’ stall, has
got to be the one that serves its
springy noodles and heavenly
broth in porcelain bowls. The
dish is a touch sinful, but that’s
the price to pay for a taste of
heaven, right? The setting is hot,
humid, noisy, rowdy… but that is
what it’s all about!”

St James Power Station
DISH: BARBECUE
STINGRAY
What you’ll find:
It’s a good
rest stop for supper after a night
of partying at St James Power
Station. There’s a good selection
of local fare to choose from, like
barbecue stingray and chicken
wings, satay, rojak and other tze
char dishes. There are loads of
spicy goodness for those with
adventurous tastebuds.
They have a big-screen TV to
watch your favourite soccer
matches with your mates.
And, if shopping is your thing,
VivoCity is just across the road.”
