was recentlynamed thepresident andCEOofUnited
andwould like to take a fewmoments of your time to
introducemyself to you, our valued customers.
Let me begin by telling you what I told my 84,000
co-workers: I took this job because we, as a team, have
an incredible opportunity to improve the travel experi-
ence essential to the vitality of global business and to the
personal lives ofmillions of people.
I have served on the board of directors of United, and
previously Continental, for more than a decade. From
this experience and my own leadership roles at various
transportation and large consumer companies, and from
my own personal values, I bring a clear vision for what
United can be—the top-performing airline—and I want
us to be your first choice for every trip you take.
This goal canbe achievedby deliveringon three things
that I believe are critical to any successful business.First,
we must focus on our customers and what we can do to
help them.
To you, this is especially critical.Getting youwhere you
want to go,on schedule, canmake or break your ability to
succeed in awork endeavor or to hug a familymember at
an importantmoment.
Second, in any organization, it’s all about teamwork. I
like to refer to this as “shared purpose.”To get youwhere
you want to go safely and happily requires thousands of
us working together with a shared purpose.
Third, this is a company and an industry that demands
innovation.There are new forms of loyalty programs and
affinitygroups,a constantly changing regulatory environ-
ment, plus new digital and networking technologies that
are emergingon adailybasis.AtUnited,we are embracing
these changes andwill continue to innovatewith the goal
of providing our customers better performance, service
and products.
Above all,my career has taughtme that safety is para-
mount.Our passion for the safety of our people and our
customers will be at the core of everythingwe do.
My co-workers and I will work each and every day to
earn your loyalty by holding true to these principles of
customer focus, teamwork through our shared purpose,
continual innovation and, of course, safety.
My goal is for you to be as proud to flyUnited as I am
