for that! The new album track ‘I Need Something New’ was actually
writtenon the road; it grewout ofme sayingwordson stage, andwas
formedwithmybandmates infrontofa liveaudience.There’sasenseof
freedom rock’n’rollgivesyou–a feelingofbeing 110percentalive.

Whatdoyouadoremostabout thecity?
There’s a truly amazing bookshop, called
Shakespeare and Company (37 rue de la

where I can buy my books in English. It’s
reallybeautiful,andhasa lotofhistory.
A lot of your songwriting influences come
from literature.What’sonyour reading list?
I have a book of short stories by Ry Cooder
that Gemma [Thompson, Savages guitarist]
gave me as a birthday present. I’m also
always drawn to poetry books; if I have five
minutes, I’ll have a look and it can have an
instanteffect.
Peoplereallyrespondtothedirectnessofyourwritingandperformance.
Does that comenaturally,or is it challenging to layyourselfbare?
It’s partly because I’m French, and I write and sing inmy second lan-
guage,English.Somehow,thatshapestheway Iwrite;itcreatesadirect-
nessthatanativeEnglishspeakermightbeafraidof.Ofcourse,I take joy
in lookingpeople in theeyeandbeingdirect,andeven scary.
Adore Life
is an emotional record, it takes you todifferent states of being in love.
Sometimes,showingabitofvulnerability is themost impressive thing.
Savagesplayhardand looksharp.Any fashiondesignersyouadmire?
I have a really good relationshipwithMinimarket (minimarket.se), run
by three sisters from Stockholm. I love their strange, interesting and
classic looks. I havea lot of theirpieces, including theblack jacket that I
wearonstage; their springcollection isgoing tobeamazing!

dotant d’une expression directe qui pourrait rebuter un anglophone.
Bien entendu, j’aime regarder les gens dans les yeux enm’exprimant
sansdétours, jusqu’à les effrayer.

est unalbumqui parledes
sentiments. Il explorediversétatsamoureux.Parfois,dévoilerunpeude
savulnérabilité,cela impressionne.
Le look importepourSavages.Quelscréateursdemodeaimez-vous?
J’entretiens une très bonne relation avecMinimarket, qui est tenupar
trois sœurs originaires de Stockholm. Elles créent des looks étranges,
intéressants et classiques que j’adore. J’ai achetébonnombrede leurs
créations,notamment lavestenoireque jeporte sur scène. Leur collec-
tionprintemps-étévaêtremagnifique.
