classic,orwellknown,”hesays. “There’sa
familiarityaboutusing it,whichmakes it
more interestingwhenyoudosomething
dierentwith it.”
Whathehascreated isdefinitelydif-
ferent—and it’stheresultof trial,error
and“manybreakages.”Twostylesof the
Chamberpendant lamp, forexample,have
asculptedmarblecenterencased ina lead
crystalvessel.Thefixturescanbehung
individually,or formoredramaticeect, in
clusters.Globe isatable lightwithabase
resemblinga footedmarblebowl, topped
byahand-blown leadcrystaldome.The
baseseemssolid,but itactuallyhouses
anLEDbulbthatemitsadreamlikeglow.
Thepiècederésistanceof thecollection is
Tube,analmostyard-longcylindercarved
fromasinglepieceofmarble.Shavedmight
beamoreappropriateword,asthefixture
isonlyabout0.2 inchthick.Broomsays it
was inspiredbybasicfluorescent lighting
asseen ina factory.Hisversion,whichhas
anLEDstrip inside, isanythingbut. “I
wantedtocreatesomethingvery industrial,
butveryhandcrafted,”heexplains. “It’sa
cool lightsourceandgivesthe illusionthat
themarble isactuallythe light.”TheNou-
veauRebelcollectionranges from$110 for
anOnTheRockmartiniglassto$6,575 for
theGlobe light.
