Automated vertical Carousels have a rotating ferriss-wheel' principal that maximizes overhead storage. In order to store and retrieve inventory, shelves or carriers move bidirectionally in a track system. This simple, reliable concept has been in existence for 70 years. It can store and retrieve various types of inventory. This ASRS style allows for a large amount of storage to be packed into a smaller area. It can also work with lower ceiling heights. This shelving is designed to fit comfortably at the waist and eliminates the need of order pickers, bending or stooping. The implementation of standalone systems with integrated controls is easy. However, integration with your ERP can improve order processing efficiency as well as inventory tracking.

The vertical carousel's main advantage is that it uses unused vertical space, resulting in an extremely small footprint—ideal when floor space is limited. Positioning more than one unit together, as with horizontal carousels, reduces picker wait times.

One option is to use your bookcases. Place the shelves against one wall and the boxes containing your frequently used items on top. Just make sure to leave a path in front of them so you can remove the boxes. Another option is to buy shelving specifically for your unit.
