What is this step
and why is it needed? Attributes are a combination of demographics and student program characteristics. Demographics represent Date of Birth, Gender, Ethnicity, and Race. Program Characteristics are data such as Free/Reduced Lunch, Gifted and Talented, ESL, and ELL. Together, they are called User Attributes. Clever, ClassLink, Simple File Format, QuickRoster, and OneRoster 1.1 can all support demographic data. SIS plug-ins such as Aeries, Infinite Campus, Skyward, and others use the OneRoster 1.1 API standard, which will support demographics but not student characteristics. Because Powerschool and Clever CSV do not support demographics or characteristics, we recommend moving to a different format. ● If you are planning to use NWEA or the Read180/Math180 products, the demographic data (DOB, Gender, Race, Ethnicity) is required for reporting and data sharing purposes. Be sure you are providing it in your uploaded data for all students and make sure it is selected here. Additional characteristic data can be helpful in funding purposes, so you will want to activate the ingestion of those characteristics as well. ● Be
sure to complete the setup of this in NWEA to map the imported
data to NWEA as well. See the following for details: ● If you are rostering this data just for Ed/Flight, we will store the data; future features will start to expose this data during the current school year when the features are released to market. ● This data will not transfer to legacy systems such as ThinkCentral and Holt McDougal Online.
How does attribute data import differ based on my import method? ● Clever – We pull in data from the Extensions area, where you have the ability to include or exclude any data you deem needed for reporting. ● ClassLink – We pull demographic data
and automatically align it to common platforms. In order to align
Characteristic data, you need to setup the characteristic with
the imported name first. For details to do this, refer to the
following ClassLink article: HMH
Rostering Service ● OneRoster 1.1 API – It only supports demographic data of DOB, Gender, Race, and Ethnicity. Any characteristic data would need to be added manually. We recommend you consider moving to Clever or ClassLink if you require characteristic information. ● OneRoster 1.1 CSV – If you are building the file yourself, we support demographic data and a robust list of characteristics. ● SFF – We support demographic data and a robust list of characteristics.
The rostering administrator can select which data to include in the import and which data to be managed (shared) with Common Platforms.
