As a teacher, you can create an alternative name for a class to display as the class name when you are using Ed instead of the class name that was provided during rostering. The nickname that you create appears only for you; students and administrators continue to see the original class name provided during rostering.
At any time, you can edit your class nickname or delete it and revert to the rostered class name.
Note: This nickname feature is available to all teachers and differs from the create classes and edit class information features, which are not always allowed depending on the data permissions set by district administrators.
1. In the HMH Ed™ banner, click the Home tab. The Home page appears, listing all your classes as separate class cards in the My Classes area.
2. In
the card of the class for which you want to create a nickname, click the
vertical ellipsis button, and select the Add
Class Nickname option.
An Add Class Nickname dialog box appears.
3. In the Nickname field, type a name for the class and click Apply. The My Classes list updates to display the newly created nickname for the selected class.
In all Ed locations where the class name appears, such as the Class Overview, Roster, and Reports, the class name is shown as the nickname that you created.
For your reference, the original class name (under which the class was created or rostered) can still be viewed in the following locations:
– On the Class Overview page (above the nickname)
– The Edit Class, Edit Class Nickname, and Delete Class Nickname dialog boxes
4. To
edit or delete a class nickname, in the My
Classes list, move to the card of the class for which you want
to edit/delete the nickname, and click the vertical ellipsis button. The Edit Class
Nickname or Delete Class Nickname
option list appears.
– To edit the nickname, select the Edit Class Nickname option, and in the Edit Class Nickname dialog box, type an edited name for the class in the Nickname field, and then click the Apply button.
The nickname updates to the edited nickname.
– To delete the nickname, select the Delete Class Nickname option, and in the Delete Class Nickname dialog box, click the Delete Nickname button.
When you delete the nickname, the class reverts to being identified using the original, roster Class Name.
Note: Depending on your data permissions, you may also be able to edit or delete the class nickname in the Edit Class dialog box. See Edit Class Information for details.
