Linux Monitoring Agent Installation

Linux servers often run the most critical applications. Proactive monitoring will lead to increased uptime and faster fault resolution. The Linux Monitoring Agent adds monitoring, alerting and reporting on the status of the Linux servers to the Dashboard.

The Linux Monitoring Agent designates all installations as servers. Once installed, the Linux device appears in the Server section of the Dashboard.

The Linux Monitoring Agents are available for the following distributions and builds:

+ The Checks marked with a plus are added by default when deploying the Agent (where supported or the monitored product is installed).

After installation the Linux Monitoring Agent release will also collate all of the hardware and software information from the server and upload this to the Dashboard. Once processed these details are available in the Asset Tracking section under the Client and site the device is registered under.

To ensure the Linux Monitoring Agent starts after a reboot, please register rmmagent as a service using chkconfig.

Although XenServer 6.0.2 is not officially supported, we have had success reported when installing the Linux Monitoring Agent (i386 package for CentOS 5) and as such this distribution is classed as compatible

Monitoring Agent Communication URLs

Depending on the company's security policy a firewall or other web monitoring software may be deployed to filter internet connections to avoid any potential Agent communication issues, we would suggest whitelisting the URLs listed in the Agent Communication URLs section.
