Excessive Advertising plus Poor Grammar and Spelling

The Google search engine algorithm Panda update of 2011 targeted poor websites that served their visitors excessive advertising, especially above the "fold". This is an an old printing term that describes the part of a newspaper that is seen when it is folded in half i.e. the top section of the paper. Today this term refers to the part of a web page that can be seen before the user scrolls down to see the bottom of the page.

If you have excessive advertising above the fold your website page will not do well in Google's search result page

The website on the left is just full of adverts. It does not give the visitor to that page any useful unique content. The website on the right is rich in text and only has one advert visible on the right with a few links underneath it. The website on the right gives the visitor a much better experience. This is the type of web page Google would rather see. Something that gives the visitor the information that they were looking for not just a page full of ads.

Now we move onto another element targeted by the Google Panda algorithm update. Websites with very bad spelling and grammer indicate to Google that they have been translated by computer software and not a native speaker. The quality of the writing is poor and so will be the experience of a visitor to that page. Read the text in the image below. It was taken from a travel website.

As you can see the information is not well written. If you have paid a firm in a foreign country to write all your articles and information on your company website go and check it for quality now. Any website that has content as bad as this will be at the bottom of the search engine results.

Google is an American company but it will not downgrade your website if your are writing in Australian English, Canadian English, South African English or British English. So long as the words you use are normally found in one of those dictionaries then there is no problem. You do NOT have to start writing using the American way of spelling wordsif you do not want to,
