Bleaching or whitening Both the enamel and the underlying tooth structure (the dentine) are not impenetrable to stains, and they commonly yellow over time. Bleaching or whitening can remove stains from both the enamel and the dentine. Teeth that have been somewhat stained or discolored are often treated with bleaching, which is a common treatment approach. Here, the dentist will take a model of your teeth in order to create a mouthtray that is unique to you. This "mouthtray" is loaded with bleaching substance, and it is pressed on the tooth surface while being careful to avoid having the bleaching material make contact with the gum tissue. In most cases, the tray is intended to be worn for up to two hours per day. Within the first two weeks, there will be a discernible improvement.
The most fundamental step, which takes about half an hour to complete, is the contouring of the teeth. It reforms the teeth into a shape that is more desirable. Your teeth can either be entirely reshaped by the cosmetic dentist, or the contour of your upper teeth can be changed to match the shape of your lower teeth. Even if only a small bit of tooth enamel is removed, there will be no negative effects in either the short or long run.
