History: “Ernest J. Hancock. . . cleared forty-five acres and made many improvements, erecting the most elegant residence on the island. . . He had a large orchard. . . and continued the cultivation and clearing of the land until he had one of the most desirable farms in the country.” This was recorded in 1893. The main house was torn down after being vacant for a few years, and the grainery is the only remaining structure from the Hancock place. It is now being used for hay storage by the Sherman family.

Description: Vernacular Barn. Wood frame set on post and block foundation; rectangle (30’ x 22’); - bay wide; 1 1/2-stories.
