History: Captain Clapp, a sea captain and local public official, purchased this house in 1886. The Clapp’s resided in the house for over 50 years. In the 1920’s, they added the 1-story bedroom on the west façade. A retired navy family purchased the house in the mid-1940’s. The next owners were Ronald and Mable Race who bought the house in the late 1950’s. The Mosher’s owned the house during the 1960’s and made many changes to the interior. Ron VanDyk purchased the house in 1969 and has been restoring the interior.
Description: Queen Anne Residence. Wood frame set on post and block foundation; L-shape with 1-story addition on south façade; 2 bays wide; 1 1/2-stories; shiplap siding with diamond-cut shingles on gable ends; steeply-pitched, wood-shingled gable roof with clipped cross gable on west façade; corbelled center chimney.
