History: This building was built in 1904 for John Samsel, an attorney. By 1906, James Zylstra, prosecuting attorney for Island County, owned the structure. It originally was half the present size with a false front, gable roof and carved brackets. The structure has been expanded in size and the roof line changed and it now serves as a private residence.

Description: Vernacular Residence. Wood frame set on post and block foundation; square with small shed roof addition on east façade; 3 bays wide; 1-story; shiplap siding; asphalt-shingled gambrel roof. Exterior features include 1/1 double-hung sash with plain surrounds; plain cornice; corner boards; pedimented roof covering over front entrance; wood deck on north façade with stairs to landing on east façade.
