History: The building is one of 5 or 6 remaining on Front Street which was constructed for John Robertson. In 1890, Robertson sold the building to a J. Sedge who operated a home furnishings store. The existing front windows were made and fitted by Mr. Sedge. A variety of businesses have occupied the structure over the years and for a time a Chinese laundry occupied the lower level which currently contains the Knead and Feed Restaurant. The small building connected to the Sedge Building on the east housed the original telephone exchange for Coupeville from 1900 into the 1930’s.
Description: Vernacular Commercial. Wood frame set on wood pilings/post and block foundation; rectangle with 1-story, flat roof addition on east façade, connecting to adjacent structure; 3 bays wide; 1-story; shiplap siding; wood-shingled gable roof with slightly extended eaves; interior end chimney on north façade.
