History: A.B. Coates, owner of Whidbey Merchantile Co., built this house with the aid of his two sons in 1892. Several additions have been made to the structure over the years.

Description: Vernacular Residence with Queen Anne style elements. Wood frame set on post and block foundation; 1-story gable-roof addition on the west façade; 3 bays wide; 2-stories; shiplap siding; wood-shingled hip roof with cross gable on east façade; corbelled center chimney on rear addition. Exterior features include 1/1 double-hung sash.
