Using a Production Family to Define Capacity
Previous Topic  Next Topic

A production family can be used to group a set of parts that share the same capacity and resource constraints.   Once a production family is defined, a part can be linked to that production family.  After the part is linked, the PFEP for that part will automatically be updated with the correct capacity and resource constraints defined by the production family. See FAQ about Production Families.

To define a capacity using a production family:

  1. From the PDS, click on the Capacity expansion button. If you need help accessing the PDS, see Accessing the Product Data Sheet.

  1. Select the Ship-From MRP Area from the drop down menu. The specific ship-from location may not have been captured yet.

  1. Select YES to link the part to a Production Family.  Select the Production Family from the drop down selection menu. The capacity and resource constraints as defined by the Production Family will be linked to this part. If the Production Family is not in the drop down list, see How to Create New Production Family. If you chose No, the part's capacity and resource constraints would have to be defined on an individual basis.  See Defining Capacities for an Individual Part.

  1. Click Save at the top of the PDS screen to store the capacity and resource constraints as defined by the Production Family for this part.
  2. Click Return to go back to the Part Planning session.
