Getting a quick bite at the Munich
Hauptbahnhof

Love those German trains ... an ICE
(left) and a regional RegioBahn

Classic!  Weißwurst and pretzels

Hans Prugger and Robert

Niece Maureen and Robert

Robert with Lisa Prugger

Liza and Maureen in Salzburg

Robert and Maureen at the Mirabell
Gardens

Classic view - overlooking the Mirabell
Gardens with the Hohensalzburg
(fortress) atop the hill in the distance

Maureen and Liza at the Mirabell
Gardens ... Sound of Music fans, this
very step is where Fräulein Maria and
the von Trapp kids finish "Do Re Mi"

What else is Salzburg famous for?
The Marionette Theatre, of course
(Again, Sound of Music..."Lonely
Goatherd")

On the Getreidegasse (main shopping
drag in Salzburg)

It was Spargelzeit!  (White asparagus
season...yum!)

Inside the Salzburg cathedral

Robert and Liza at the Stiegl Keller
restaurant, near the funicular leading
up to the Hohensalzburg

View of old town Salzburg from the
Stiegl Keller terrace

Lovely Wienerschnitzel!

View of the old town, walking down

Another view...

And another :-)

Next, it was out to Schloß Hellbrunn

The main feature there being the
famous Wasserspiel (water play -
trick fountains)

School kids who were happy enough
to sit on the stone seats and get
spritzed

Beautiful reflecting pool

More kids having fun - note the water
operator / tour guide on the right

Tulips in bloom at Schloß Hellbrunn

Lovely!

The regional train that would whisk
us back to Munich

Liza obligatory train shot :-)

And now we have one of Maureen!

The photo Robert and Maureen would
both like me not to post :-)

In the Pruggers' Wintergarten
(solarium, or just lovely dining room)
for breakfast

Robert enjoying a coffee at the
Viktualienmarkt in Munich

At the Viktualienmarkt

Lunch at the Hofbräuhaus in Munich...
sure it is touristy - but the food was
actually quite good, as was the dark
beer!

Liza and Maureen at the Hofbräuhaus

Obligatory oompah-pah band - they
were good

The main hall of the Hofbräuhaus

Robert in a Rubens room at the
Alte Pinakotek (old masters art
museum) - believe this is the
Last Judgment

We did a double-take at this
advertisement...

...and had to find the actual shop...
seriously, who would shop there?

Menu board for a restaurant near the
Viktualienmarkt - the main feature
being the advertisement of fresh
white asparagus spears

The horse butcher ... they do it all (it's
a cultural thing - we didn't have any
that we know of - but might have tried
if it were on the menu...)

At the Neues Rathaus (new city
hall) in the Marienplatz watching
the famous Glockenspiel

Maypole displaying info about the
local breweries and the beer
"purity law" (Reinheitsgebot)

A cheese shop...sigh

Inside the Theatinerkirche -
Liza's favorite in Munich

The Altes Rathaus (old city
hall) - it's a lot newer looking than
the Neues Rathaus because it
was destroyed during the war
and rebuilt

In the toy museum, admiring the
Steiff teddy bears

Robots in the toy museum

Kaffee und Kuchen with Maureen

Robert waiting to board our ICE
train to Nürnberg

Robert's train photo!

Robert with cousin Johannes and
Johannes' wife Bärbel (and their
live-in help looking on) reviewing
some of our trip photos to date

Johannes, Robert, and Bärbel

May Day!  Caught part of a parade
in Nürnberg - noticeable police
presence, but was a pretty benign
gathering

The Mauthalle (Old Granary)

Façade of St. Lawrence church - this
part depicting the slaughter of the
innocents (with a baby skewered by
a Roman sword...yuck)

Inside St. Lawrence church

Photo exhibit in St. Lawrence church,
showing the extent of the destruction
at war's end

The only remaining "tower
house" in Nürnberg, built in
~1200 - basically a one-family
castle

16th-century "Fountain of the
Seven Virtues"

Horn quartet, apparently from
St. Petersburg (yes we bought a cd)

The Schöner Brunnen
(Beautiful Fountain)

View up at the Kaiserburg (Imperial
Castle)

St. Sebald church

Lunch!

Gyros and falafel, yum

So how can Subway compete with
this?  Beats me

Johannes and Robert reviewing
family history

On the bike path in Erlangen -
bats welcome!
