Up to the rooms

Hallway outside our room

Up to the top (for someone
else!)

You know you're not in the US
when you can't put TP in the toilet

Outside the hotel

Quito view from the road out
of town

Uses for old truck tires - have
them become guardrail supports

Liza at Tinalandia Lodge, about
2000 ft elevation

Robert at Tinalandia

A squashed teeny tiny
green snake on the road up
to the cabins

View from the dining room at
Tinalandia

Robert birding...what else?

Interesting flower on a palm

Fruit!  This time some type of
prickly-pear-type cactus fruit

Pretty flowers were everywhere

Robert heeding the sign
to watch out for snakes on the
trail

Zzzzzzzz...........

View of the Río Blanco from the
restaurant Mirador del Río Blanco
in San Miguel de Los Bancos

Mirador del Río Blanco also had
rooms available...nice bird
paintings

Mark explaining a bit of
natural history to us

Your choice - platform, main
house, or snakes?

If someone can tell us what
animal we're not supposed to feed,
we'd appreciate it!

Ginger?  Ornamental, of
course

The remarkable Angel Paz and
his "tame" Giant Antpitta, Maria
(see her photo on the birds page)

Robert on the trail at Angel Paz'
reserve

Interesting moths on a
rock in the river

How many people will this
bridge hold?

More pretty flowers...

The rules, at Angel's

Enjoying a post-birding coffee
break at Angel's

Liza at Angel's

From Angel's, on to Tandayapa
Lodge, 6600 ft

Hard to see here, but many
beautiful rugs/wall hangings at
Tandayapa

Great room at Tandayapa

Birding on the patio - fantastic
hummingbird viewing

Outdoor dining, too!

Robert on the patio at Tandayapa

Leaving Tandayapa we drove
back upslope to Quito, passing
this Equator monument on the
way (but it was closed for the day,
lol)

View from the drive up to
Papallacta Pass, outside Quito

Robert on the road

Top of the pass - well the paved
road at least

From the top of the pass we
drove up a dirt road to some
microwave towers, and then
climbed up on foot - to about
14,500 ft?

Liza and Robert near the top!

A hardy pincushion plant at
Papallacta

Robert at Papallacta - see lake
behind/below him
Together near where the van
was able to park
