On the ferry - first view of Supetar
(St Peter / San Pedro),
the main ferry terminal on Brač

VBT bikes on the trailer

Liza on our balcony at Hotel Pastura,
Postire

The wine glass' view from the balcony

And Robert on the balcony!

Postire beach/marina

What a lot of people on Brač did - look
to the mainland, then leave, after
hard times in the early 20th century

A konoba (restaurant) in Dol,
called Stori Gušti, a few miles
cycling from Postire

They were expecting us - had the frittule,
walnuts, figs, and brandy waiting for us!

Marijo the proprietor showed us
his cooking area and how they
cook "under the bell"
(a peka)

Morning briefing by VBT tour leaders,
Marko and Milan!  Two great guys!

First big ride - first over to Pučišća

Robert and Liza overlooking
Pučišća

Robert on the waterfront

Our bikes!  Pretty nice

In Pučišća, visiting the stonecutting
school

Stonecutting in progress

Polishing a fine bowl

After visiting the stonecutting school,
Milan drove Robert and me (and our
bikes) over to Selca, on the east end
of the island
This is the "new" church designed
in the 1920s and completed in the
50s

Some familiar names in the new
church - but no Ursić

Inside the new church - look at all
that glorious Brač stone

Map showing Selca's environs

Robert enjoying a serious sandwich
(just bread and prosciutto) at a cafe
on the square in Selca

The old church in Selca

Liza walking out of Selca - steep
hill...

Overview of Selca including
Sumartin (the other ferry port)

And proof she was there!

That night we had a home-hosted
dinner in Postire

Our hosts - Mate and Sovjetka (Sophie)

At the dinner table

Robert - is that a bald spot? :-)

Dessert - a yummy crème caramel

Post dinner, where do people wind
up - at a bar on the waterfront!

Liza with Marko and Milan - what
a great day!  Yeah, we've all had
a few by this point

Robert in Nerežišća - note the
small tree growing out of the apse
of the Sts Peter and Paul church.
This stop was after a windy
and steep descent from Vidova Gora,
the high point of the island

Rolling past a stone quarry

Love the sage and lavender, too

We were headed towards Milna,
eventually

Bell tower in Ložišća

Lighthouse in Milna

In Milna...blue water, boats, church...

...and a nice restaurant for lunch

Robert at the top of the climb coming
out of Milna

Supetar, we think

Back in Dol for dinner that night,
at Stori Gušti - lamb over a wood
fire, yum

Milan with the proprietor,
Marijo

Where the lamb was cooking...

Toni of our group checking out the
brandies (Bill, where's the
orahovac?)

Lovely evening outdoors for dinner

Appetizer - prosciutto, cheeses,
olives...

What the lamb looked like after
we started attacking it

Stori Gušti info

Marko giving the morning briefing,
on the bus

This day we were starting cycling
in Pražnica, through G Humac
and then down to Bol and the famous
beach Zlatni Rat

Overview of Bol and (best seen in
the larger version) Zlatni Rat, the
"golden horn" beach

Robert en route to Bol

Dolphins!  But not quite like
Marineland in southern California

Love the altered sign - we
qualify!

Zlatni Rat

Liza on the Riva in Bol

Bol

Rocky beach and cold water =
no swimming! Come back in July!

Robert on the waterfront, Jelsa

The boat dock

Love this sign...
"Access Forbidden"

Marko as we waited for
our boat

And here it is!

"I'm on a boat! " (ok, you have to watch
Saturday Night Live to get this)

..."I'm on a !@#$!#$ boat!"

We could get used to this...

Last look at the island of Brač
