Generating a LAN File Summary Report
A LAN File Summary Report displays a list of the scanned files on the network. Filters are available so you can analyze a particular group of files. This is useful for identifying changed or duplicate files.
To generate a LAN File Summary Report:
1. On the Tools menu, point to LAN Storage Discovery, and then click LAN File Summary.
1. On the Reports menu, click Online File Summary.
2. To filter the results, do the following:
a) In the Filter box, type the filter you want to apply to the report. For example, you can search for files that match a specific pattern (e.g. *.doc).
b) In the Category box, select the category of files you want to display in the report. The options are as follows:
• All – Displays all category of files.
• All files - Displays all files.
• Duplicate files - Displays files that have more than one copy, minus one for each unique common file group.
• Duplicate groups - Displays unique common file groups. All identical files are members of a unique file group.
• Changed and new files - Displays files that are new or have changed from the start of the search period.
• Unchanged files - Displays files that have not changed since the start of the search period.
• Not accessed files - Displays files that have not been accessed since the start of the search period.
c) In the Duplication box, enter the number of duplicate files that must exist.
d) To display only the totals, select the Totals only check box.
e) In the Share/Set box, specify the specific shares on the LAN that you want to search.
3. Click Find. The following information is displayed:

4. In the Last box, enter the last number of days for which you want to display information.
5. To view detailed information about a row, select the row, and then click Detail. Each line represents a unique file. If more than one copy exists, the duplication amount is indicated in that column. Do the following:
a) To view duplicate instances of a specific file, click Show Duplicates. You should monitor backup sets to ensure duplication is considered.
b) Click Close.
NOTE: A maximum of 50,000 files can be displayed. If the scan returns more than this number, the results are sectioned.
6. To view a pie chart of a row, select the row, click Chart, and then do the following:
a) In the View type box, select the category you want to view.
b) Select whether you want to view the information by files or by size.
c) Click Close.
7. Click Close.
