DS-Client Help : Getting started : Connecting to a DS-Client

Connecting to a DS-Client
The DS-Client allows multiple simultaneous connections using the same or different authentication credentials. By default, access to the DS-Client is restricted to administrators or backup operators (Windows DS-Clients) and root users (Linux or Mac DS-Clients).
NOTE:  An administrator can configure different roles to access a DS-Client. For more information, see “Configuring the user and group settings”.
To connect to a DS-Client:
1. Start the DS-User application.
2. From the list of DS-Clients on the left side of the main window, select the DS‑Client to which you want to connect.
To switch between the computer name and IP address, right-click the list, and click Sort by Name or Sort by IP.
To rescan the network for available DS-Clients, click Refresh.
Each DS-Client in the list is color coded as follows:

Table 1 DS-Client color coding information

NOTE:  If the DS-Client you want does not appear in the list, you can add it to the initialization settings. For more information, see “Configuring the connection settings”.
3. Under Connection properties, in the Protocol box, select the protocol you want to use for communication between the DS-User and the DS-Client service. The options are as follows:
Encrypted – All data between the DS-User and the DS-Client service will be encrypted with a random encryption key at every connection.
Standard – This option is only offered for backwards compatibility with old service/daemon versions that do not have this feature.
4. Under Credentials, type your user name and password. This must be a valid user account on the DS-Client computer.
5. In the From box, select the domain or server on which the credentials will be verified.
6. To save the credentials for the duration of the DS-User session, select the Remember Credentials check box.
NOTE:  Exiting the DS-User application will clear these credentials.
7. To use your current credentials to automatically connect to the DS-Client, select the Use current security context check box.
NOTE:  This option is only available when connecting to a Windows DS-Client.
8. Click Connect.
NOTE:  If the DS-Client is unregistered, you must perform the initial configuration. See “Performing the initial DS-Client configuration”.
