DS-Client Help : Configuring the DS-Client : Configuring the initialization settings : Configuring the connection settings

Configuring the connection settings
You can specify the host name or IP address where the DS-User will search for the DS-Client service. This will speed up your logon process in large network environments. You can also configure DS-User to scan entire subnets.
NOTE:  If you do not specify an IP or DNS address, DS-User scans the local computer and the local computer’s subnet.
To configure the connection settings:
1. On the Setup menu, click Initialization.
2. Click the Connection tab.
3. In the LAN search time box, enter the amount of time, in seconds, that the DS-User should spend scanning the LAN for DS-Clients.
4. Under Additional DS-Clients, do the following:
To add a connection, click New.
To modify a connection, select the connection, and then click Modify.
NOTE:  To delete a connection, select the connection, and then click Remove.
5. In the Add / Edit a DS-Client dialog box, do the following:
a) To specify the host name or IP address of a single DS-Client, select Single DS-Client, and then type the host name or IP address of the DS-Client.
b) To specify the host name or IP address of each node in a Grid DS-Client, select Grid DS-Client, and then click Add or Modify. To load a text file containing a list of host names or IP addresses, click Load.
c) In the Port box, enter the port number. The default is 4403. Do not change the port number unless you have a specific requirement to do so.
d) To use the UDP protocol to display the list of DS-Clients faster, select the Use UDP protocol to discover DS-Client check box.
e) Click OK.
NOTE:  DS-User scans the LAN for all active DS-Clients. DS-Clients that are not detected appear in Red. DS-Clients on the local computer appear in Blue.
6. Under Additional Subnets, do the following:
To add a subnet, click New.
To modify a subnet, select it, and then click Modify.
NOTE:  To delete a subnet, select it, and then click Remove.
7. In the Add / Edit a subnet dialog box, do the following:
a) In the Address box, type the IP address of the subnet.
b) In the Port box, enter the port number of the subnet.
c) Click OK.
8. If you are using a Windows DS-Client and connecting to a DS-Client in an Active Directory domain using the security context of the current logged on user domain, under Logon using security context, do the following:
a) In the Target Name box, type a target name. The default is CloudBakSvc.
IMPORTANT:  Your network administrator must create and register the target name with an Active Directory using the Microsoft Networking Tool (setspn.exe) to give it authentication to log on to the required DS-Clients. Once registered, the DS-User supplies the target name for the DS-Client to verify and allow the authenticated user from the DS-User to connect. Ensure any changes conform to your network security policies.
b) In the Auto-connect box, configure how the DS-User behaves when it is launched. The options are as follows:
Last DS-Client – Searches for the last connected DS-Client. If the DS-Client is not available, the DS-User prompts the user to select a DS-Client.
Local DS-Client – Searches for the local DS-Client. If the DS-Client is not available, the DS-User prompts the user to select a DS-Client.
Last or Local DS-Client – Searches for the last connected DS-Client. If the last connected DS-Client is found, the DS-User attempts to connect with it using the credentials of the user already logged on from the current session provided the same user name and password is provided. If the last connected DS-Client is not available, the DS-User connects to the local DS-Client using the current security context.
Local or Last DS-Client (Default) – Searches for the local DS-Client and connects using the current security context. If the local DS-Client is not available, the DS-User attempts to connect to the last connected DS-Client using the current security context provided the same user network credentials are used, the local user exists on the remote DS-Client, and the appropriate user permissions are present on the remote DS-Client.
Disabled – Turns off the auto-connect functionality. Users must type a valid user name and password to connect to the selected DS-Client.
9. Click OK.
