Leading customers through their journey
To build a strong relationship with your customers and position yourself as their trusted adviser, it’s helpful to understand your role as a
designer during the customer journey. This enables you to provide the appropriate responses, actions and guidance that will manage the
path, expectations and relationship.
1. Guide
– Lead them through the dreaming and learning phase.
Give them reputable sources for information and take the
time to learn about their wants, needs and desires.
2. Direct
– Lead the discussion, direct their activity and get
customers engaged in the process. Find ways to remind them
that you are committed, offer value and have listened to
them so that you can create the right design for them.
3. Confirm and assure
– Tie the products in the design back to
what is important to your customers and reinforce that they
are making good decisions.
4. Consult and maintain
– After the order is placed, follow up
with the customer and let them know what to expect next.
Call on the install day to answer any questions, and follow up
afterward to make sure they’re happy with their new space.
