USNA Makes Forbes Best Colleges List
Example content imageThere are many lists ranking colleges and universities from best food to worst weather. A few lists are standouts, however, and the Forbes list is one. This year, the Naval Academy ranked incredibly well overall and on Top STEM and Public Colleges lists, besting the other service academies in all three categories.
San Diego Career Conference is Almost Here
Example content imageThe Service Academy Career Conference is a career-enhancing conference with companies and universities eager to meet you. Thursday is full of presentations given by companies like Snap, Koch Industries, Booz Allen Hamilton and Flintco. Seminars range from owning a franchise to the benefits of post-graduate education and advice for JMOs and “senior” alumni. Join us 24-25 August.
Midshipmen Have Arctic Summer Internship

You will hear no such noise from MIDN Emily Cecchini ’18, an oceanography major, and MIDN Chandalar Pensley ’19, an ocean engineering major, interning at the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Laboratory. In the Arctic Ocean, they launched 21 air sondes, five aircraft expendable current profilers, five AXCTDs and one UpTempO buoy.
Parents of Athletic and Scholarship Program Students
Example content imageIn this video, parents of the Class of 2017 who entered through the Foundation’s prep school program look back on their experiences. Their midshipmen attended an additional high school year at one of 18 prep schools under Foundation sponsorship before attending the Academy, gaining the opportunity to bolster a multitude of skills. Foundation prep school students have the highest graduation rate of all accession sources at 90%.
Tremel ’04 Speaks About Syrian Shoot-down
This past June, the first air-to-air kill by a U.S. pilot since 1999 Kosovo took place over Syria. The jet was shot down by LCDR Michael Tremel ’04, USN, after it dropped bombs near U.S.-backed forces, according to U.S. Central Command. Tremel explained to savetheroyalnavy.org exactly what happened that day.

Plebe Summer Photos and Video
Plebe Summer will be over soon. If you missed our pics of damage control, hazy-hot-humid rope course days, marching and some sailing thrown in for relief, it’s not too late. As a benefit of membership, thousands of downloadable images are uploaded as the summer rolls along. We also just posted a video of this year's plebe training.
Greenspan ’15: No-Tattoo Policy No Longer Applies
Minnesota United soccer players are coming clean about the meanings and regrets behind their many tattoos, including ENS Joe Greenspan ’15, USN. The Navy rules have been relaxed of late, and Greenspan is no longer short on tattoos. He explains each tattoo’s meaning, as do his teammates who also discuss regrets.
Bill the Goat Exhibit
You know him, you love him. He is Bill the Goat, the two- and four-legged mascot of the Naval Academy since 1890. He was recently honored with a new exhibit at the Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center dedicated to our mascot’s origin and history. The opening even featured the four current four-legged Bills.
Biomedical Mids
Two out of three students in the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation’s biomedical research program this summer were midshipmen—chemistry majors Jocelyn Rodriguez ’19 and Erin McShane ’19. “It’s fun to pick the scientists’ brains to see if I want to do research or be more on the clinical side,” said Rodriguez, “and to see the leadership styles.”
BZ Seabees!
Navy New Mexico Construction Battalion 22 has been volunteering to build housing on the Navajo Nation for people who cannot afford their own homes. Over the past 20 years, the program has built 261 homes. commanding officer of NMCB-22 is CDR Daniel Wiegrefe ’99, USN.
