Guideline for Rural Tourism Case Study Phone Outreach
Washington County is conducting a study of tourism activities in the County’s rural areas — existing, devel-
oping, and desired.
As part of this, our consultants will look at three or four local event sites as case studies. Based on their
research, including interviews with a number of Washington County farmers and event hosts, a few sites
have been recommended for the case studies that seem to do a good job of managing events and activities,
including (site name).
If you’re amenable to it, our consultant will just want to ask you a bit about your experiences and practices
and maybe observe the site during an event or activity — but any observation would be unobtrusive and
respectful of your concerns.
Our hope is to look at some sites that differ in terms of product or service, activities, and distance from ur-
ban areas and other event sites.
This will help us learn about best management practices that different people use to minimize impacts to
surrounding properties, traffic, and farm operations – information that will help us plan for rural tourism as
it grows in the County.
Our consultants are MARStewart Group and Cogan Owens Greene, who both worked on an agritourism plan
for Clackamas County, along with Nelson/Nygaard.
I’d like to send you a copy of the study scope so you can get a better idea of study goals.
