I'm sorry to all those well meaning programmers out there but:

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU GUYS ARE DOING?

Filtering software is outrageous. Firstly censorship is just plain wrong. (Don't get me started on censorship!)

Secondly the filtering systems are just so dumb. You can access loads of pornography which isn't censored but you can't access parts of the Electronic Frontier Foundation's site, Gay Rights sites and breast cancer sites etc. I mean what are they on?

These programs are doomed to fail. You can't push to moral dilemmas onto some strangers with weird ideas about pornography (breast cancer???). Its up to parents and teachers to supervise children. Kids will find porn elsewhere if not online so its best they meet these new things with the moral support and explanation from role models like teachers and parents. Hiding them from it is just putting off their dilemmas for when parents aren't there to help them.
