Finally the election campaign is officially underway in the UK.
I don't see why everybody was questioning when the election could be, it seemed obvious from that start that May 1 was the choice.
This campaign is going to be a strange case of Labour trying to stop themselves making any mistakes while the Tories trying all out to get any form of support whatsoever. Labour seem to have it bagged unless some great calamity befalls them. The Tories and John Major especially have tried so hard but every hurdle has been trapped with one crisis after another. Only this last week there was an uproar over the delays in releasing the "Cash for Questions" report. The Tories just can't shake off the jinx.
Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats are continuing their steady growth with some steady and intelligent policies.
The strangest thing of all is the huge amount of media coverage. No other election has even compared to this. There are going to be multiple TV debates between party leaders and other politicians including competing chancellors.
If one thing's certain about this election its the continuing growth of the media's part to play with The Sun switching sides to TV to journals this election will later be remembered for little except the hot air many people were paid to speak.
