There's a big stumbling block preventing Europe from truly taking part in the Internet revolution.

If they don't introduce a megabyte tax, that is.

Local calls need to be free, off-peak if not all the time. Very very little TV is paid for by the minute or hour yet the Internet, another influential entertainment, information (etc.) medium is like that. How can anybody interact or seriously get into anything online with the clock ticking the whole time?

And what about those people who pay hourly charges for their online access? A double whammy time-based bummer! Unless you're very well off its not affordable to spend even reasonable times online if you're paying the bill. The Internet won't grow into Europe if this continues. Another revenue system needs to be found.
