© 1997 j-dom Media. Contact us!The use of the term "Netizen" seems to be rife in the media but who actually knows what a Netizen is? j-dom itself claims to be "The Zine for Netizens" but what are Netizens?
A large portion of the media seem to regard Netizens merely as Internet users. I feel this cannot be the case, Netizens are a bit more than that. Some would say that Netizens are heavy Internet users, some Netizens might be but in general heavy users are Net heads.
Netizens are something a bit more altruistic, people who make up the core of the Internet community. They are made up of digerati, Net heads, anti-spammers and so on. They are the core that defend this fledgling nation.
They support Netiquette in all Internet communication, they stand by free speech and act on their beliefs by preventing spams, hacking and take pride in doing so. Netizens are those who see the implications of the future of the Net and want the rest of the world to know about it. Netizens are embroiled in discussing the future of the Internet and its social, political and economical implications on nations.
Netizens would regard themselves as being there to help. Netizens want to help newbies on-board, they relish the growth of the Net but also try to maintain a certain air of civilization to the whole affair. They might be the future politicians of this place.
One thing is certain, though. Netizens believe in action. They've acted on the CDA in the US, they actively stop abuse and they work to improve the Net as a whole. Being a Netizen is a state of mind. Its about believing in the Net and what it can offer us and wanting to explain to those who don't understand.
The only remaining question is....Are you a Netizen?
