Something you will need to do fairly regularly is to clean your build plate.
Remove the build plate from the printer, and wash it with warm water. If bits of filament are still a bit stuck, rub it lightly with a fingernail or green scrubber (but do not scrub hard). Then dry the build plate thoroughly, both top and bottom, before replacing it on the printer.
