Once a notorious prison islet,
these days Thief Island in
Oslo
is
a thriving arts hub. Art-deco hotel
The Thief is the latest addition
to this urban renewal project. It
has astounding waterfront views
of the Oslofjord and Tjuvholmen
canals from most of its 119 rooms,
furnished modern creations by
Tom Dixon and Boca do Lobo.
It’s just one of more than
280,000
hotels available to

Festival season is hotting
up and one of the best
line-ups this year goes
to Primavera Sound in
Barcelona
.
This year’s
bigwigs Band of Horses,
Jessie Ware and The
Vaccines as well as
old-school stalwarts
Dinosaur Jr., Fiona Apple
and Nick Cave & the
Bad Seeds have already
sold-out Primavera’s full
festival allocation, though
day tickets for 22-26
May (€80 each) are still
up for grabs. But if you’re
not quick enough on the
mark to nab those, there’s
always the free concerts
on 22 May.

New app Tech Cool Tour
is set to revolutionise how
tourists view ancient sites
An enterprising group of Serbs
has designed an app that uses
augmented reality to bring
to life ancient Roman and
Byzantine sites.
Available in English for free,
on Android and iOS devices,
the TechCoolTour app is being
developed in
Belgrade
by
creative agency LiveViewStudio,
which has collaborated with
archaeologists, museums and
NGOs, and funded by the EU.
LiveViewStudio project
manager Jana Rodic says:
“
Information at tourist sites is
sometimes hard to understand,
so with this app you can just
point your mobile phone or
tablet at the space around
you and see all the historical
layers as a part of your
environment, like a disappeared
Roman villa in 3D.”
At present there are 12 sites
across
Italy, Slovenia, Croatia
and
Serbia
,
such as the Felix
Romuliana complex in eastern
Serbia, Pula amphitheatre in
Croatia, and Fondo Cossar in
Aquileia, north-eastern Italy.
“
Serbia is not somewhere you
would think has an important
Roman heritage,” says Jana,
“
but actually 17 Roman
emperors were born here!”
You can download the app
from 1 May, at
