WE CAME,
we saw, we conquered with our
cameras.
The recent Smile PhotoTrek to Bali was
our most successful yet, with 15 avid shooters
honing their skills on this picturesque
island. The members of this crew came
from all corners of the Philippines, from
varying backgrounds that included medical
professionals, accountants, corporate
executives and even an ex-ambassador.
What tied us all together was our passion
for photography — and this we displayed only
too well. From our base in the central town of
Ubud, we headed out to document the charms
and colors of Bali. Never mind the occasional

and came back with more than just stunning imagery.

rains; no amount of bad weather was going to
dampen our spirits. We photographed places
both renowned and unknown; from majestic
Hindu temples to sleepy hillside villages. In
the evenings we talked shop, our colleagues
garnering nuggets of photography wisdom
from the day’s experiences.
Best of all, we got to know the Balinese
well. Throughout our three pixel-packed days,
we watched, chatted and ate with the locals
in their element. And at all times we were
greeted with wholehearted friendship. In the
end, the pictures we took home were valuable,
but our experiences in the Island of the Gods
were what made this trip truly priceless.
