Walk this way
The roads in Bali are sometimes
unevenly paved, especially in Ubud, so
wear comfortable, durable sandals that you
don’t mind getting some mud on. There will
be tons of walking to and from places of
interest, particularly rice terraces, so take a
comfortable bag, like a backpack, to keep
your hands free for taking pictures.

It’s always warm
Although it has its wet season from
December to February, Bali is normally hot
all year round. It’s best to pack light basic
clothing for your day wear — think cotton
tank tops, cotton tees, light button-downs,
cotton shorts and linen pants.
2
You’ll need
protection
It’s mostly hot and sunny during the day,
and going around will require a lot of
walking or riding a motorbike, so pack a
stylish straw hat to protect your hair and
some polarized sunnies for your eyes.

There are dress
codes
Bali is less strict when it comes to dress
codes than its neighboring islands. But
that doesn’t mean walking the streets in
your bathing suit or sauntering around
town in short shorts. Although skimpy
clothing is more acceptable in touristy
areas such as Kuta and Seminyak, be
ready with some casual coverups for
places like Ubud. The largely Hindu-
populated island is dotted with temples,
and it’s best to wear cotton trousers or a
sundress that falls below the knees.

Leave room in your
luggage
Bali is filled with fashion shops, jewelry
stalls and markets where you’ll definitely
be scoring some amazing finds like drop
earrings, stone pendants, a printed ikat
bag, a scarf, shawl and even big printed
loose pants. Just pack at least one or two
casual printed dresses that can go for a
day and evening look depending on your
accessories.
