HOLLYWOOD STARS
Jeremy Renner
and Rachel Weisz, director Tony Gilroy
and producer Frank Marshall were in
the Philippines for several weeks early
this year to shoot the final half of
The
Bourne Legacy
, the fourth installment in
the Bourne series. They have nothing but
praise for Filipinos, the actors, the food,
Palawan and Boracay. Marshall, who has
traveled extensively around the world,
described Palawan as the most beautiful
place he has ever been. Weisz even shared
that her husband, Daniel Craig — James
Bond, no less — ate
adobo
(pork or chicken
stewed in garlic, vinegar and soy sauce)
when he came to visit.

the Filipino actors in
the film.
We worked with some wonderful Philippine
actors. There was one in particular. He
played a security guy. I’m sorry [but] his
name slips my mind.
Was it John Arcilla?
Yes! He’s an excellent actor. And then there
was the actress who was on the bridge
where we jumped off onto the bus. All the

Tell us
about your
experience
filming in the
Philippines.
It was fantastic. The people made filming a
wonderful experience. We were shooting in
the most unglamorous of all locations but
the people were always generous with their
time. I appreciated their efforts. We were
able to shoot there because of them, their
attitude and constant support.
You also got to visit some
of our islands.
We filmed in extremely poor areas in the
city then we went to the islands, which are
the complete opposite. They are some of
the most beautiful islands I’ve ever seen.
I did a bit of swimming and canoeing. I
did whatever I could do to get in the water
because it’s gorgeous out there.
extras were amazing too. They seemed
to be keen to be part of the movie and be
involved. They were excited that we were
filming there.
What surprised you
about shooting in the
Philippines?
I was surprised that there’s great [film]
infrastructure there. There’s brilliant local
talent in art, camera and other departments.
What was the most
challenging scene?
When we shot at the port (Navotas Fish Port
Complex). It wasn’t just covered in scales;
we were breathing scales. They’re in the air!
It was a very difficult place to film in. We
did what was probably, for me, the scariest
