SKYDIVING
sure is a thrilling adventure and
is awesome to experience at least once in
your life. But if the cost and safety risks are
discouraging you to have a go at it, then why
not give indoor skydiving a try?
iFly Singapore, located in Sentosa, is
the perfect place to do just that. It’s safe,
affordable and on top of that, diving in the
wind tunnel “feels like the real deal”, says
Mr. Lawrence Koh, the founder and managing
director of iFly. He’s a former officer in the
Singapore Army’s parachuting school, so he
certainly knows what he’s talking about.
“
I wanted to bring the thrill of flight
to everyone,” says Koh. To do that, he
eliminated the risk and cost factors involved in
actual skydiving. “Now you don’t have to burn
a hole in your pocket and worry about the
weather, the plane crashing or your parachute
failing to open,” he adds.
To guarantee flyers’ safety, the wind tunnel
underwent rigorous testing by SkyVenture, an
international operator of skydiving simulators,
and the International Bodyflight Association
(
IBA). iFly also has 11 certified instructors
who have undergone intensive training in
compliance with the rules and regulations of
the IBA. An instructor accompanies a flyer in
the wind tunnel at all times.
The 56.5ft-tall and 16ft-wide tunnel can
accommodate up to 20 flyers at one time.
The tunnel also has an 18ft acrylic glass wall
so you can enjoy the view while you fly; your
family and friends can watch you, too!
The wind speed required to keep a flyer
mid-air usually ranges from 160 to 190km
per hour, but iFly’s four 7-ton fans can
produce winds of up to 300km per hour,
which is faster than the average speed of an
F1 car. The wide range of air speeds makes
the tunnel ideal for first-timers as well as
more experienced flyers who’d like to do
complicated movements and formations.
iFly will host the first-ever indoor
skydiving world championships in Asia
Pacific from December 13–16. Feeling
