CEBU
Sinulog Festival 2012
January 6–31
Start the year with one of the country’s
grandest celebrations. The Sinulog
Festival 2012 kicks off a month-long
party in Cebu City to honor the Santo
Niño, who was once the patron saint of
the whole province of Cebu. A huge part
of the festivities involves street dancing,
where locals don bright costumes
and perform to the beat of drums,
trumpets and gongs, paying homage
to the Filipino people’s pagan past and
eventual conversion to the Catholic faith.
The action takes place along Osmeña
Boulevard.
This year also features photo exhibits,
competitions like Sinulog Idol, street
dance competitions, bands, concerts
and much more — events that’ll let you
get on with the merrymaking and cure
you of your Christmas and New Year
hangovers.
