160 Künstler, 100 Tage, eine Stadt: Vom
9. Juni bis 16. September ist die sonst so
beschauliche Stadt Kassel Schauplatz
der 13. Documenta. Die international be-
deutende Ausstellung betrachtet Kunst in
ihrem gesellschaftlichen Kontext und
lässt dabei auch unbequeme Themen wie
die negativen Folgen des globalen Kapi-
talismus nicht aus. Leiterin Carolyn
Christov-Bakargiev und die Gegenwarts-
künstler aus aller Welt, die an unter-
schiedlichen Ausstellungsorten ihre Bil-
der, Fotos, Installationen und Per-
formances präsentieren, hinterfragen mit
ihren Werken ihre Auffassung der Gegen-
wart. Die Documenta will den Besuchern
neben der menschlichen Sichtweise auch
die Perspektive der Tier- und Pflanzenwelt
näherbringen. Damit der Theorie-Ansatz
der wohl bekanntesten zeitgenössischen
Kunstschau verdaulich bleibt, führen ver-
sierte Begleiter die Kunstinteressierten
auf Wunsch durch das Programm und be-
antworten Fragen.

Between 9 June and 16 September, the
quiet town of Kassel is transformed into a
hub of contemporary art as it hosts the
13th Documenta. The international
exhibition focuses on the relationship
between art and society, and deals with
such weighty topics as the negative
consequences of global capitalism. Under
artistic director Carolyn Christov-
Bakargiev, contemporary artists from all
over the world will exhibit paintings,
photos, installations and performances
that question how we see the world. It’s
not just the human view that’s presented
– the work will also look at the world from
the point of view of the animal and plant
kingdoms. It’s an intellectually weighty
show, so for visitors needing some
orientation, there are well-informed
guides on hand to answer questions and
take them around.
