When did you start coming here?
“Barstro only opened last July, and
I already knew the formidable team of
chef Paul Campbell and maître d’ Viktor
Domahidy from the Casa Roja
Restaurant in Puerto del Carmen,
where they worked before opening
their own premises.”
What´s the appeal?
“Quite simply, the food and service.
I’ve been several times since my first
visit. It doesn’t matter what time of the
day I arrive or who I’m with, the
front-of-house service is impeccable
and the food is stunning. What I like
about Barstro is that you can pop in for
coffee and cake, tapas or a three-
course meal.”
Who comes here?
“Barstro is in a rural village close to
Teguise, the old capital of Lanzarote.
Its reputation tempts tourists to
venture out from the holiday resorts.
It’s also a firm favourite with locals,
as it offers fine dining at resident prices.
Lastly, the restaurant has started
supporting many of the talented artists
living in Lanzarote. Each month a new
exhibition is launched, which
introduces a whole host of new faces
to Barstro guests, as well as
showcasing some amazing talent.”
What´s your order?
“A tough one to answer. My favourites
to date have been a starter of chilled
calamari with lime, chilli and capers;
followed by a herb-crusted rib-eye
steak with garlic and herb butter. For
dessert, I love the spiced poached pear,
white chocolate and coconut soup.”
What keeps you coming back?
“The uniqueness. Barstro is a bistro
with a twist. The menu features classic
dishes, using fresh local ingredients
with a surprise element. I love that
the menu completely changes every
two weeks, so you’re always tempted
to be adventurous and try something
new on your next visit, rather than
sticking to an old favourite. It’s perfect
for any occasion.”
