assured that the only thing you’ll be aware
of being built during your stay is a growing
sense of relaxation. Whether you choose
a ‘pure’ room or a slightly more luxurious

ambience, thanks to thick, creamy beige

it’s not difficult to see
why Marcel Wanders is sometimes
referred to as the ‘Lady Gaga of Design’. The Dutch designer
is renowned for his flamboyant interiors and his trademark,
quirky touches can be found all over Amsterdam’s latest
luxury hotel.
After a swish iPad check-in, guests are whisked into one
the many reception rooms, where oversized ceiling lamps,
chess piece-like tables and huge suspended bells make you
wonder if there was more to the delightful complimentary
wine and nibbles than first met the taste buds. In the stylish
suites, a decorative world of giant, mutating fish and a
glowing mushroom continues the fun.
Housed in the shell of a former public library, this quirky
abode cajoles even the more stubborn of imaginations to
partake in their own mini ‘Wanders-land’ adventure, but
the attractions outside are just as noteworthy. The hotel
is located bang in the centre of the lively Jordaan district
where visitors will find a host of independent galleries and
