When she gets a break from her desk, the Roskilde
Festival insider likes to take a wander through
the creative complex of Musicon
“
located in a former concrete
factory,
MUSICON
(

)
is slowly becoming
Roskilde’s creative hub. It’s also helpfully
positioned between our offices in Roskilde and
the festival area, so I like to go there to take a
break from work. It’s urban, with many
warehouses where we store things during the
festival, and it’s also home to a new cultural
scene. There’s a dance theatre, art society,
creative business offices and, in summer, a
small outdoor coffee shop.
“
Last year, the Rabalder Parken area – a new
skate park and a reservoir – opened and was
nominated for a design award.
People are willing to
experiment a lot here, which
gives the place a character
that’s pretty interesting.
“
There’s an edgy
feeling, which is very
Roskilde Festival-like,
and there’s a close
connection between the
two – for instance, art
installations from the festival
have ended up here. Many of
these are co-creative, such as the
Pixldance Playground, where music plays when
the swings are used; and the Green Footsteps
Lab, which focuses on environmental
sustainability, with solar cells, so you can load
up batteries, and bikes that produce electricity.
“
That stuff is all very interesting, but the
reason I like it is that it bridges the gap
between the industrial past and something
new. It contrasts nicely with the ancient town
of Roskilde. It’s really an area that’s in the
making and I like its unfinished feel.”
