PROMOTION
WITH A FEWPRECIOUSDAYS
booked off work to spend withmy
closest friends and somany destinations
to choose from, we just had to decide
where... not easy when there are six of
you. The one destination that was a
unanimous “fantastic!” was the Aegean
Islands. After a grey winter, we were all
ready for some sun. We jumped onto
secretsales.com for a gorgeous pair of
designer sunglasses (at a steal of a price),
caught the first flight, and off we were to
soak up the rays.
JUST LANDED
Athens was our first stop – one of the
oldest cities in Europe. We checked in at
the St George Hotel on Lycabettus Hill
and promptly went for a dip in its rooftop
pool overlooking the Acropolis, soaked
up the sun and enjoyed a refreshing
METAXA and pomegranate juice served
beautifully chilled. Later that evening
we watched the spectacular sunset
from the Orizontes viewing deck, at
the top of Lycabettus – one of themost
breathtaking sights in the world – then
headed out to the bar-lined, artsy district
of Gazi. Here we shared the Athenians’
passion for life until the small hours.
Next day, we were ready for more.
ISLAND-HOPPING: SAMOS
Athens... done. Time to properly kick
back and relax on the beach. We took a
ferry across the Aegean Sea, and arrived
at the stunning beaches and crystal
blue waters of Samos – all the way at
the very edge of Europe. The slopes of
the island are full of terraced vineyards
producing world-renownedMuscat wine.
A bartender told us that the locals tend
the grapes delicately. He then poured us
aMETAXA and tonic and explained that
themost intensely aromaticMuscat wine
has been used to createMETAXA since
1888. The sun had begun to set, but we
had no desire to leave the beach. We’d
made a new friend, who then played his
guitar while we danced barefoot in the
sand, withMetaxa inour glasses, until the
early hours.
