The region’s beautiful countryside is

This diverse landscape combines with

It’s hardly surprising, then, that the
area was popular among Bohemian
rulers, including the Jagiellon dynasty,
which reigned between 1471 and 1526.
They oversaw a period of peace and
prosperity, whichwas of immense
benefit to artists such as Albrecht
Dürer and Lucas Cranach.
Five centuries later, the Jagiellons
and their culture have returned. The

Hora has been selected as the Czech
venue of the international Europa
Jagellonica exhibition project. Until
the end of September, visitors to the
UNESCO-listed townwill have the
opportunity to acquaint themselves
with the artistic legacy of Central and
Eastern Europe in the 15th and 16th
centuries – a period duringwhich the
dynasty controlled a vast area between
the Black, Adriatic and Baltic seas.
Here, the exhibition presentsmore
than 300 remarkable works of Central
European origin, themajority of which
are sourced fromprestigiousmuseums
worldwide. These include panel
paintings, drawings and graphic
works, as well as sculptures, reliefs and
book illuminations. The exhibition
also contains a section that displays
items relating to everyday life during
the Jagiellon era, such as jewellery,
weaponry and astrological apparatus.
