BLACK RUN
Best for experienced
clubbers and true
party animals
Verbier is a party-friendly
town par excellence. When
the lifts start winding down
for the day, the raucous après
session starts to kick off, so
those wanting a good time
should get involved.
Sawyer suggests starting
at
THE MONT FORT
PUB
(
pubmontfort.com
). “
It’s
walking distance from the
bottom of the Médran gondola
and happy hour is 4pm-5pm.”
Another starting point is
LE
ROUGE
(
lerouge-verbier.com
).
It has an intimate Euro crowd
with Lego hair and cashmeres,”
says Sawyer. “It’s best in
March, when DJs play on the
deck outside.”
From early evening,
the legendary
HOTEL
FARINET
(
hotelfarinet.com
),
voted “one of the top five
après-ski venues in the
world”, is the place to drink.
It’s been renovated for the
2012
season and is perfectly
suited for party-harders, with
shot-downing, bar-stomping,
rafter-swinging debauchery
and live bands every night.
Says Sawyer: “They play great
cover versions of every classic
guitar rock anthem.”
To go the distance, you’ll
want to line your stomach
mid-evening and Verbier
offers a hardcore take on
gastronomy: meat cooked on
la potence, (‘the gallows’) is
served with “old school Swiss
charm” at the
AU VIEUX
VERBIER
(
Gare de Médran;
tel: +41 (0)27 771 1668). “It’s
like a medieval flail,” explains
our expert insider. “The spiked
metal contraption has meat
attached to it which is then
flambéed with brandy at the
table, so all the juices run into
the rice below.”
To finish off the night,
head to
THE LOFT BAR
on
Rue de la Post for “two great
people behind the bar flowing
shots that keep the local
seasonaires happy”. Having
just opened last season,
it offers theme nights, live
music and also screens sports
events. Plus, as they don’t
serve food, they’re happy for
the late-night clubbers to
bring in a bite to eat from the
Hauts Sandwiches take-away
next door to keep them going.
