Many breeds were once used for looking after livestock.
These include the large white Komondor and the smaller
Puli, both of which have coats with tightly coiled hair that
resemble dreadlocks. Like the Vizsla, they are considered
national symbols and – while these animals may have once
been bred for herding – today they’re more domestic.
Judit Bogdán adopted her dog, Panka, a Vizsla mix,
two years ago. “I just love to go on trips with my dog, go
to dog school or meet with other dogs and their owners,”
she says. Bogdán has also witnessed a change in people’s
perception of their furry friends. While in Communist
times many were used for guarding, today many of those
seen around town are the tiny pampered ‘air dogs’ so
beloved of the likes of celebs like Paris Hilton.
That’s not to say you will find them everywhere. Pets
most certainly aren’t allowed at the Museum of Fine Art

),
which right now has an excellent
exhibition on Paul Cézanne, the French artist. They’re
